Online Sign ups Open Now Spring 2020

We have updated the website with new dates and other information-as always new things will be added as player clinics and other events are finalized. Hopefully you can find most of the information you need.

Due to Russ’s injury I have had limited time to get emails out to folks so accept my apology for the lateness and length of this one. He is on the mend but it’s been an extremely slow process.

Sign-ups for Capitol Little League baseball open online December 10 (midnight tonight!) on our website www.capitollittleleague.org   Look for the registration tab.

The Eagle Project to redo the dugouts on Fields 3, 5 & 6 will be getting underway this weekend.  Materials were donated by Lincoln Creek Ace Hardware.  IF you want to help—wear warm clothes and work gloves.  No electricity on Fields 5 & 6 so if you have battery operated nail guns or screw drivers those would be helpful as well.

Also we have some banners still up on Field 3 & 4 so help getting those down and stored would be appreciated.  Pulling up and storing bases and pitching warm up mounds in dugouts would be helpful as well. We will be working on that between 10 and 1 PM on Saturday Dec 14.

Anyone still having team equipment to return can bring by and put it in the blue equipment shed across from the concessions stand.

Website Vendor change:

Blue Sombrero our previous website vendor was acquired by Sports Connect—so you will see that logo rather than Blue Sombrero.  Hopefully the switch will be as seamless as we have been told.  IF you see issues—broken links or other stuff please let me know via email [email protected].

Transactions Fees:

Because Dicks Sporting Goods no longer owns the website vendor, there is now a $3 per transaction fee charged to parents when you make payments on the website—this fee is for the entire transaction on a specific date—so if you register and pay for all your players at one time it is $3 for the entire transaction.  IF you do separate payment transactions OR use the payment plans—each payment transaction charges the $3 fee.

No transaction fee is charged for scholarships, coaches applications or Challenger as there is no payment generated.

Player Fees & system league ages:

League age is determined by players age as of August 31, 2020.  IF you are wanting your player to be in a division other than the league age listed, please register them according to the system league age and contact me directly at [email protected].  Players league age 7 or 8 wanting to play Minors will have to have a player evaluation before being drafted to higher division.  Players over age 8 wanting to play down will also need a player evaluation before placement in lower division.

Fees have had a slight increase this year due to increase in lease, insurance and other costs.

  • T-ball $120 (league age 4 to 6)
  • AA Machine pitch $140 (league age 6 to 8)
  • Minor--$210 (league age 9 to 10)
  • Major $210 (league age 10 to 12)
  • Intermediate-$210 (league age 11 to 13)
  • JR-$210 (league age 12 to 14)
  • Challenger (special needs) no fee (league age 5 and above)

We have a 3 part payment plan--$50 due on sign up with the remaining balance split into 2 payments due January 10 and February 10.

Scholarships:

Scholarships are available by contacting Loris Gies President at [email protected] via email request. You will need to provide name and league age of player; division intending to play and reason for need for full or partial scholarship.

NO In-person sign-up:

We will close registration on FEB 10.  There will not be an in-person sign up.  IF  you are unable to register online you may contact Loris Gies President at [email protected] for assistance in registration.

New rules for out of boundary players:

Little League requires players who are NOT in our boundaries (basically Olympia, North Thurston, Tumwater and Griffin school district boundaries) MUST have an approved non-residency waiver PRIOR to the DRAFT for Minors and above and PRIOR to placement on T-Ball or AA team.

In reviewing the new out of boundary waiver application, it appears that IF both leagues agree, players on waivers may be eligible for District tournament play (really new and exciting) IF the waiver committee in Williamsport agrees.

In the past, the waiver had to be approved by June 1 now it’s BEFORE player is placed or drafted to a team.

By Little League rule--players MUST live or attend school within our league boundaries OR have an approved waiver on file—this has NOT changed.  See the proof of residency requirements link.

IF you have a question about whether  you live in our boundaries you can check your address in the Little League Finder

When you register please use your PHYSICAL address not your mailing address—the registration system should advise you IF your residence is showing as NOT in our boundaries.

A properly completed school enrollment form (signed by principal or asst. principal NOT office staff) is accepted as SOLE proof of residency—meaning you don’t have to come up with the 3 proofs of residency.

You can find the school enrollment form on this link IF you need it.

The school enrollment form can be from any school private or public within our boundaries.  HOMESCHOOL is NOT accepted by Little League for school enrollment purposes.

IF you have a school enrollment form on file with our league from previous years it is good as long as your player is still attending that same school. IF the player changes schools, a new form is needed.

IF your player was on a post season tournament team in 2019, all paperwork needed should be on file with our league. Also a few players received waivers last year that are still good.  IF you have a question about the status of paperwork on file, please contact me.

Forming teams, practices and games:

Divisions will have wait lists that will kick in based on maximum sign-ups for each division. Wait-listed players will go on teams as we can be sure we have coaching staff available. We don’t intend to turn players away.

Our goal is to have no more than 12 players per team this year and to be sure each team has a team manager by FEB 29.

While our goal is to have all teams practice at Capitol Little League complex in Tumwater, the last few years we have not been able to do that due to growth.  We are in the process of securing a few Olympia School District practice fields and hopefully a field at Griffin as well—for practices.  The number of teams we can support will be based on the number of fields we can secure for practices.  Our fields can accommodate only about 40 teams--last year we had 46 Spring teams.

Games for T-ball and AA will be on our fields on Saturdays with a few weeknight games depending on the number of teams we have.  We play Tenino and Oakville teams in these divisions but all games are on our fields in Tumwater.  We try to have about 10 to 12 games for teams in these divisions.

Games for Minors and Majors will be weeknights and Saturdays either on our field or at Tenino, Rochester, Elma, Centralia or Chehalis.  Minors don’t play double headers but Majors may have one or two double headers during season.  These teams must play a minimum of 12 games by Little League rule.

Games for Intermediate and Juniors will be mostly double headers on Saturdays either on our field or in Elma, Montesano, Centralia or Chehalis.  We may also play teams from Auburn or Enumclaw or Gig Harbor IF we need to fill out the schedule.  We may play a few mid-week games on our fields or in Centralia or Chehalis.  These teams must play a minimum of 12 games by Little League rule.

Pre-season player evaluations and uniform fitting:

All players league age 9 and above must have a pre-season player evaluation even if returning as a property player to their Spring 2019 team.  This is required for eligibility to play in post season tournaments.  Players, who are league age 7 or 8, must participate in pre-season player evaluation IF they want to be considered draft into Minor division.

This year the player evaluations and uniform fittings will be at Peter G Schmidt 237 Dennis St SE Tumwater.

Player evaluations
will start about 8:30 AM and continue thru the day based on age/division.

Uniform fittings will be for ALL divisions between 9 AM and 3:30 PM--remember we use the information parents enter on their registration to order uniforms--if sizes are wrong the parents are responsible for replacement of the uniform item.

Make up evaluations will be held FEB 27 at Peter G Schmidt starting at 6:30 PM.

Field 4 conversion to dirt infield

This project will be completed before we start practices in March.  We will be tearing out the grass infield and replacing it with dirt which will be easier to maintain and reduce bad hops and hidden divots.

We will be adding infield mix to the base paths on fields 2 & 3 and to the infield of field 6 as well as apply some Truface prior to starting games.

The usual winter/fall maintenance of weed and feed on all the grass areas on the entire complex has been done.  We will also be doing a spring treatment.

Board Meeting DEC 15 3:30 PM at Mills & Mills Tumwater

At this meeting the board will be finalizing budget, approving by-laws and league specific rules for Spring 2020.
We will not have another board meeting until FEB 2020.
Anyone wishing to attend may do so--we are always in need of additional board members.
