Little League extends suspension of activities to May 11

Many of you probably received the latest email blast from Little League International asking that local leagues extend the suspension of baseball activities until May 11.

Little League International is maintaining a section on their website for updates on Corona and how it impacts our season.  The link is https://www.littleleague.org/player-safety/coronavirus-update/?utm_source=coronavirus%20update%203.16&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=coronavirus%20update

International  hinted that post season play may be delayed or eliminated this year because of the global nature of this virus.

This suspension could extend our playing season into late June or early/mid July.

Governor Inslee placed further restrictions on public groups and businesses today.

Return to school date is still April 24.

The CDC revised their advice to limiting contact to groups of 10 or less and increased social distancing for at the next 15 days.

We are complying with all of this advice at this time.

My hope is that because we were the first USA area to be impacted by the virus, we will start to see declines in new infections and be able to return to whatever our new normal is faster than the rest of the USA. I may be a dreamer (but I am not the only one).

While multiple scenarios are possible for the start of baseball, it appears the earliest possible return to practice would be April 25 and games May 11—IF school reopen and dates not pushed back.

It also seems probable that school practice fields will NOT open again this year and we will need to practice on our fields--sharing space or dividing time.  The team managers and I will work on that soon so we have a plan in place when we have the go ahead to resume activities.

The board and I are working with our District Administrator and the other leagues in our District and region to make Little League baseball happen this year for our players and families.

Even as practices and games are on hold, we are not on hold in getting our facilities ready for baseball.

Fields:

Reid Wilder will be leading a small group painting dugouts on Fields 3, 5 &  6 to complete his Eagle project began last fall with donated materials from Lincoln Creek Ace Hardware.

We will be having the mounds on fields 2, 3 & 4 repaired and a new dirt mound built on Field 6.

We will look for additional opportunities to improve our playing fields.

Equipment:

We ordered and have stocked the season’s baseballs and team gear and equipment.

Porta Potties and hand washing stations:
I did request removal of most of the porta potties--one will be left at the main complex by the dumpster and one by Field 5. When we bring them back, we will include either hand washing stations or hand sanitizer stations.  The remaining porta potties have hand sanitizer.

Uniforms:

While the actual ordering of our uniforms and opening of Fan wear store will be delayed until practices resume, we will be making sure all sizes, roster numbers and name spelling is correct for all teams--parents can check their player's team page on the main website as the computer runs we do to place uniform orders come from that source NOT the mobile app.

You can check and correct sizing and spelling by logging into the main website and going to MY account, click the little pencil by your player’s name and correct any information.

You can send name and uniform number information to  your team manager and sizing information to [email protected]
