Status report March 26, 2020 from Capitol Little League President Loris Gies.

I recognize that LL baseball is probably the last thing anyone is worried about at this point.

However, I know many folks have questions about where we are going with this season and when.

I wish I had a functioning crystal ball and could give a definitive answer.

This is what I learned last night--the WA State District Administrators met last weekend (March 21-22) in video chat with Regional LL International office staff.

As a result of that meeting (see link to the letter here)-you will need to open in a new window.

  • LL International requests we stay the course with NO practices or other baseball activities until at least May 11.
  • The state/regional group asked the Districts presidents/boards to discuss possible options for multiple scenarios—
    • Running “Spring” season late (May/June to July) with reduced post season eligibility and holding post season;
    • Converting “Spring” to later season (June/July to August/September) with no post season;
    • Cancelling “Spring” and refunding all or a portion of fees paid back to parents based on each leagues ability to do so.
    • Frankly anything is on the table it seems.
  • The State/Regional group will be meeting again in two weeks (April 4-5) and we can expect further guidance then.
  • The final decisions need to be made on at the International level, then State/District level and then on a league level.

In discussion last night with our District Administrator and district league presidents, we have ALL indicated we would like to provide baseball for our leagues IF it is safe to do so for our players, coaches, umpires and parents.

Some of our District/board decision making will also rest with what happens with schools in our league areas and the next couple of weeks with CoVid19 in our state and for our league-Thurston County specifically.

The Capitol Little League board has had discussions via email and chat about these subjects. Many decisions will need to be made and our board will make them in a timely manner once we have definitive direction from LL International.

Thank you for your patience with this process—
