Player evaluations FEB 3 & 10 what you need to know!

DEFINITIONS

LEAGUE AGE is your player’s age as of AUGUST 31, 2024—please keep that in mind when determining your player’s slot in the evaluation schedule.

PLAYER EVALUATION is required for kid pitch division players to participate in post season tournaments unless the player is a returning 2023 Spring property kid pitch division player returning to their same team for 2024 (see property player below).

We do not have “tryouts”—every player will be placed/drafted on a Spring 2024 team at Capitol Little League.  The evaluation is to determine their readiness to play at the division they requested.  

Players will be asked to catch, throw, run, hit and if interested in pitching will be asked to pitch.  

Evaluation is done in small groups (hopefully) and takes about ½-45 minutes.

Players should bring a glove and bat/helmet IF they have them—if not we will have them available.

Players should wear comfortable clothing—baseball uniform not required.

NO cleats allowed in gym—wear tennis shoes please.

NOTE:  League age 7 players are NOT permitted to play in post season tournaments but may, after player evaluation, play in regular season.

FREE AGENT (REQUIRE a pre-season player evaluation) any KID PITCH player:

• NEW to Capitol Little for Spring 2024
• Asking for a release from their Spring 2023 team
• Who played ONLY Fall 2023 season at Capitol.
• Who skipped a season and didn’t play Spring 2023 at Capitol.
• Who did not move up to the same division as their Spring 2023 team.
  • Example: Your player was on 2023 Spring Minor Team Brown and YOUR PLAYER STAYS IN MINOR, Team Brown moves to Majors—YOUR player is a FREE AGENT.

PROPERTY PLAYER (these players do NOT need a pre-season player evaluation) any player who is:

• Returning to their SAME Spring 2023 kid pitch team regardless of division as long as BOTH the team and the player are in the SAME 2024 kid pitch division.

  Examples:

  • Your player was on 2023 Spring Minor Team Brown AND BOTH your player and the team stay in Minors-your player is a property player for Team Brown for Spring 2024.
  • Your player was on 2023 Spring Minor Team Brown AND BOTH your player and team move up to Majors for Spring 2024—your player is a property player for Team Brown Majors for Spring 2024.

   

  AA Machine Pitch moving to Kid Pitch Minors (REQUIRE a Player Evaluation)

  2023 Spring AA Machine Pitch players moving to 2024 Kid Pitch Minors must have a player evaluation to be eligible for post season tournaments regardless of whether they are property players or not.

  • 2023 Spring AA Machine Pitch players moving to 2024 Kid Pitch Minor team have property rights to the SAME team IF the team is moving to Kid Pitch Division as well.
  • 2023 Spring AA Machine Pitch players moving to 2024 Kid Pitch Minor WITHOUT their 2023 team are FREE AGENTS.

FEB 10 MAJOR, INTERMEDIATE, JR SR FREE AGENTS ONLY

IF you can’t make the designated time, due to schedule conflicts please come to closest time you can. Currently, there are not enough SR players to require a player evaluation.

2024 SPRING KID PITCH TEAM MANAGERS SIGNED UP
Team managers should plan to attend player evaluations for their division/s (IF unable to attend, an assistant coach from their staff should attend for team).

Team managers will receive evaluation materials at the check in desk.  Lunch will be provided for staff and coaches at Noon each day.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

UNIFORM FITTING ALL DIVISIONS will be available 9 AM to 3 PM BOTH FEB 3 & FEB 10 in the commons area of Peter G Schmidt.

All players should have a uniform fitting to be sure the sizes are correct.

WE are using Spin Tees (1025 Black Lake Blvd Suite D, Olympia) again this year and the same uniform packages.  IF you can’t make a uniform fitting, you may go to the store to check sizing. Please call ahead to be sure staff is available-360-515-0543.

IF your player’s last season uniform still fits, you may use those sizes on your order on your online signup.   

The cost to replace wrong size/s ordered by parent is charged to parent. 
IF league or Spin Tees makes an error, league will cover the cost to replace the uniform piece/s.

NOTE:  T-Ball and AA Machine Pitch players/coaches receive adjustable hats.  Kid pitch division players/coaches receive flex fit hats so IF your player moved to Kid pitch division, you should check hat size at the fitting.

To update sizing on your player/s sign up:

• Log into your account on our website https://www.capitollittleleague.org/capitolllwa
• Click on the little pencil next to your player’s name.
• Update sizes and any other information needed.
• Scroll to bottom of page and hit SAVE.

We will have gently used donated equipment available to give to players (if it fits)—baseball shoes, gloves, batting gloves are usually what we have available.

IF you have gear to donate, drop it off during these times as well!
